19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of that year.

The win also means he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an better serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent defended four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
